Lunch
Don't forget to bring your lunch and a flask for a full day on the water - especially in the colder months a hot drink can make the difference between enjoyment and suffering!
Waders
Although not essential at Sweethope due to the many locations for bank and boat fishing, waders can help you reach those fish just beyond your cast.
Tackle
Standard still water tackle is adequate for the majority of fish at Sweethope - although coming into contact with a rainbow of over 20lbs on a 7 foot #5 rod will prove to be something of a challenge!
Nylon for tippets and leaders is of personal choice, however most anglers would go for anything rated between 3lb and 8lb.
Make sure you have a good selection of flies, depending on water conditions etc. all of the usual stillwater patterns can produce results - Dawson's Olive, Buzzers, Daddies, Cat's Whiskers, etc. If you need advice on flies and fly selection, Rob Tait, the water keeper, will be more than happy to advise, and why not check out our "Tacklebox" feature which covers some of the more effective patterns.
Check your hooks are new and sharp - again, it's often the most inexpensive items that can make the difference between triumph or disaster.
A pair of snips are great and come in a Zinger so you don't lose them - A thousand and one uses, and a must for any angler.
Suntan lotion
Suntan lotion is an often forgotten essential - with visibly painful result on a warm day!
Sunglasses
Sunglasses are a great idea if you are learning as they are provide essential eye protection from the fly when having casting troubles.
Priest
If you are planning on taking some fish home, please come prepared with a decent priest. A quick dispatch is the least such hard fighting, beautiful fish deserve.
